Great food, great service, we like it very much

We were guests at Gasthof Engel on October 9th, 2020. We spent a long weekend in the Simonswälder Tal and as a precaution I had reserved the table 1 week in advance without any problems (due to the numerous, in some cases excellent reviews). We were there punctually at 6 p.m. We were taken to our place. Then we ordered our drinks and food. Then bread, lard and butter were brought to us. Afterwards we even got a greeting from the kitchen (Amuse Geul) which we were very happy about. Unfortunately, that doesn't happen often these days. First we got our side salad. It was very tasty and well presented, and it was a decent portion, not like in some other restaurants where you only get a few leaves with a little thick sauce. Then came the main course. Pork medallions with mushroom white wine sauce, with homemade spaetzle. Then we got a few chocolates and pastries. The service was impeccable, always attentive and friendly. I like to give 5 stars for such a first-class service. We will definitely be back. Thank you for the lovely evening...

We were at the Engel for a family celebration. The food was great, starting with the greeting from the kitchen, to soup, salad, a game dish as a main course and then the dessert variations to top it off .. Mmh simply delicious ... And also a super nice service. Really a great evening.

We were with our friends on a 4-day short break at the Gasthof - Hotel Engel. We were completely satisfied with our stay. Room, service was great. All very friendly and helpful. The highlight was our dinner. Just excellent and delicious. From the starter to the dessert. We will definitely come. again. Good starting point for hikes and excursions in the area.

We loved the food the service was just perfect. We come to the Black Forest two to three times a year, unfortunately you don't always get a table because it is often fully booked, but we look forward to the next time, thank you very much

While driving through the Black Forest, we happened to end up at the Gasthof Engel, an absolute stroke of luck. The fallow deer dishes are a poem. Simply delicious! The hospitality was warm and attentive.

we have been celebrating birthdays in this restaurant for years. because we like this ambience and the food very much. the service is always first class, friendly and courteous. we are often a chaotic troop, but the service is seldom disturbed! the kitchen is also suitable for vegetarians. I especially like the contrast between the rustic location and the stylishly arranged plates. i don't understand the negative reviews of my predecessors, of course you can't always be friendly, and a spontaneous stop is often not possible, as hotel guests and reservations (you should reserve in good time) fill the restaurant. i think this expectation of getting a place straight away is simply snooty! unbelievable what I have to read here! I can only recommend it, as there are really very few such ‘authentic restaurants in this region! first class and unique.

Super nice staff👍. The food was delicious. The rooms freshly renovated. We had a stay of several days. There was no reason for any complaint. The alternator regulator on my motorcycle was defective. The senior manager had tried to get a new one in the area without my asking. Absolutely top. I'll see you again next year.

....... due to the good reputation of the kitchen, we wanted to try it out ourselves, we arrived on Sunday evening in the main time, in the full restaurant and the friendly service was able to free us a table ..... .. as pleased as we were to get a free table, so quickly we were pulled back down to earth and disgusted by the boss.

The hotel is outside the town, but all destinations such as Freiburg, Titisee, Feldberg, etc. are easy to reach. The newly renovated rooms on the 2nd floor have become really nice. And the food ... perfect and delicious. No matter which dish: tender meat, really nicely arranged on the plate and just tastes fantastic. I always like to come back.

On the way to Ettenheim we happened to pass the Hotel Engel and stopped for a short break. What can I say? The service was very friendly, the food was delicious and the price was very good. We got a delicious greeting from the kitchen before the ordered meal and when the bill came, there was something sweet ... there is seating inside and outside. Sanitary facilities were clean and parking spaces in front of the house. We will definitely go back on the way to the next short vacation. For us a clear recommendation!

We recommend. At least a cool drink after a strenuous hike is a must. Long family tradition with fine cuisine. Parking lot straight (2020) completely renewed.

Family managed traditional Black Forest Gasthof. Friendly staff und very helpful! Food is very good, local and fresh! The rooms are very clean - a bit traveling back in time - with newly renovated bathrooms. Dog was allowed after request. Card payment possible. Located right next to various hiking rounds - we did not need to take the car.

We were with friends for a weekend here, great. Wonderful, creative and very fine multi-course menu. Delicacies at the finest and at a very high level. Service very attentive and friendly. Will gladly come back again, it was really sensational and recommendable !!!! ...... ..

This place is one awesome place. The owner Frieda is a gem of a person.the food is outstanding. We had an asparagus soup and i wouldnt shy away from saying that it was the best Asparagus soup i have ever had.Also we had a grilled salmon which was mouth watering. the owner was also kind and generous and gave us alot of sweets to eat after the meal. Anyone visiting black forest should go there to enjoy a nice meal

Great food! They really like making excellent food and give you all kinds of extra's!

We have stayed here on our biking trips for at least 6 times now. One of the best hotels we have stayed at ! Fantastic food,great value, spotlessly clean and great service , not to mention it is in one of the nicest parts of Germany. George, mum and co, we will be back !
